The soft top original Two door Mitsubishi Eclipse Repairing Odd Ball Rare Cars in Denver At Saul’s

I’m Saul here at Saul’s Autotek in Denver, Colorado. Today, we’re going to talk about some of the oddball unique cars that we get to see and work on that might be hard to get parts for or you might have been told can’t get fixed anymore, but we still take care of.

In the case of this 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse, this vehicle is an original owner car, has less than 50,000 miles on it and is fast becoming the hot collectible car in Denver. Most of these got owned by teenagers, got beat up, crashed, destroyed, aren’t in so good a shape anymore, most ended up in junkyards. However, this soft top, original, two-door coupe is in meticulous condition. When the owner brought the vehicle in, the concern was that the driver’s door didn’t open. We went ahead and we removed the door panel from the vehicle, and we saw, no dice. There’s no result. We can’t get it open either way.

We found that the latch mechanism inside the vehicle was broken and we contacted Mitsubishi. They said the part was discontinued in 2004, they haven’t made it in 15 years. However, they were able to provide us with the original part number. We then used that part number and we sourced from around the world until we found the correct part. Now, it took us a week and a half and we searched in eight countries, but the door switch for this so that we can get this latch reassembled, put back together and get this owner on the road is on its way from another continent right now and should arrive this morning.

We’ll be able to put this together, get them out the door and keep their soon to be a collectible vehicle in meticulous factory original shape. Now, they could have opted and said, “Let’s put an aftermarket part in. Let’s go find a cheap one at some regular parts counter locally and let’s just make it work.” They wanted it to be perfect. They didn’t want to lose any value of the vehicle, and they want to know that down the road it has all the original factory components. In this case, when we found one switch for one side, we actually found both for both sides and we’re going to replace both so that we know that we don’t have to face this issue down the road.

If you’ve got a vehicle that’s fast becoming hard to get parts for, whether it’s a Suzuki or a Mitsubishi or a Daihatsu or an oddball that’s not really popular anymore, maybe it’s a Saab. Who knows? We work internationally to get you the best parts for your vehicle. We’ll find new old stock components that were made by the original equipment manufacturers wherever they are so that we can make sure your vehicle is repaired right the first time every time. If you’ve got concerns about yours, you’ve asked other shops and they say they don’t service that make or it’s too old or they can’t get it, we love a challenge here at Saul’s Autotek.

Come bring us your challenge and we’ll keep you on the road.
