Repairing A 2004 Ford Explorer Engine Failure in Denver

Hi there. This is Saul Reisman again here at Saul’s Automotive. We’re talking today about a 2004 Ford Explorer, and in this case, the vehicle experienced an engine failure.

One of the good benefits of this being such a popular vehicle is Ford’s four-liter, overhead V-6 that they made for this vehicle was used for 15 years of operation and was used in many different vehicle variants, whether it be a Ford Mustang, an Explorer, an Expedition, an F-150 or anything in between. In this case, when we were looking for a replacement engine, looking in Colorado, an SUV-heavy state, where these vehicles are in serious demand, finding a used motor was over $2,000. However, when we researched the same motor as if the vehicle were a Ford Mustang, a relatively uncommon, low-demand vehicle in Colorado, we found the same engine for $850. Literally the same componentry. We will have to swap a few of the top-end components side to side to be able to work with the same engine. However, the heads, the bottom end, the crank, the oil pan itself and everything internal are all the exact same componentry.

One of the joys of being able to use accessibility of a Hollander exchange for these parts components is we’re able to save you a significant dollar value by being able to properly source the most inexpensive part, if that’s your desire for it. In the case of this owner, they’re trying to find the most cost-effective solution to re-power the vehicle. We’re not looking to spend thousands and break the bank. We’re just trying to keep it on the road. So instead of looking at a five, six or seven thousand dollar engine repair, this engine replacement will be less than $2,000.

If you’ve got concerns about yours or you’re looking at potentially a used engine replacement, give us a call here at Saul’s Automotive. We’d be happy to make some good recommendations to help get you in the right direction. 303-919-7769. Seven days a week, 365 days a year.
