Hi there viewers. I’m Saul Reisman here at Saul’s Autotek, and today we’re going to talk to you about how to keep your high-end or luxury vehicle on the road longer.
Now, the average Mercedes SUV, like this ML63 AMG has a service life of 11 and a half years. The average age of one on the road is only four and a quarter years, meaning most owners are owning one for less than five and either trading in for another or purchasing another right out. There are some that really like to keep them on the road, and we support that. These vehicles are not cheap. Typically, these are retailing between 80 and $180,000. Not a cheap car if it’s something that you’re going to be replacing every few years and not something you want to be worried about if you’re trying to keep it in the best shape, perfect, just so somebody else can have it as a better trade-in and keep that value high. You should enjoy it. It’s your car.
In the case of this Mercedes ML63 AMG, the vehicle needs some serious love. It’s got almost 200,000 miles. It’s definitely been neglected a little bit. However, to replace it would cost $125,000. So we went through this vehicle tip to tail, front to back. We inspected it as if we were buying it ourselves, and we found a myriad of different issues with it. When we went through those issues and spoke with the owner, we determined that the majority of these problems were simply wear and tear items that had become larger because they’d been neglected for so long.
Now, this vehicle is going to get some serious love. We’ll be replacing all four air struts, the valve cover gaskets, the rear main seal, the front differential output seal, the rear CV shafts, the front brakes. We’re putting some love into this car. However, we’re going to be into this vehicle for between 5 and $10,000 to do some major repairs and the owner’s going to be able to get another 50 to 100,000 miles out of their $100,000 plus SUV.
So while it may be a large investment, compared to replacement or usage of another vehicle, it’s simply not there. So if you’ve got concerns about yours, if you want to keep yours on the road as long as possible, you want to make sure yours gets the best service and you don’t want to break the bank doing it, come and see us here at Saul’s Autotek.
