How We Keep Your Toyota 4Runner running for DECADES.

I’m Saul Reisman here at Saul’s AUTOTEK, and today we’re going to talk a little bit about some of the oldies but goodies that we love to keep alive and they keep us on the road and probably keep you having fun out there too.

One of the most common vehicles that we see people maintain for decades of ownership are Toyota 4Runners. In the case of this old 4Runner that’s got over 300,000 miles and came to see us for a timing belt, water pump and radiator service, the vehicle’s been substantially modified for off-road use. They probably use it to go out hunting, camping, off-roading, and really have fun and explore the great things that Colorado’s mountains and outdoor wilderness have to offer.

Now, most people would look at an old truck like this and say, “Well, it’s just no truck. It probably doesn’t cost a lot. It’s probably not worth a lot, and probably breaks down a lot.” They might be accurate if it hasn’t been taken care of properly. In the case of this vehicle, it’s been in the same hands for over 20 years, and while it might not get used every day, it is maintained to meticulous standards. Because the owners bring it down here to us at AUTOTEK at least once a season so that we can go through it, make sure it’s maintained and make sure it’s ready for whatever they need to throw at it.

Right now it’s January, it’s the middle of the winter season and they need this on the road to keep them safe and get them around during the wintertime. Come April or May, it’s going to be taking them camping, hunting and fishing with the family so that they can be outdoors, enjoy their recreation and really see what we can offer.

In the case of what was done with this vehicle, it’s pretty modified, had a six-inch lift, we dropped the front suspension down, we put substantially larger tires on it. We modified the differentials with different gears, locking differentials, and then, of course, it took care of the basic timing and maintenance services that it needed. This vehicle is over 20-years-old and it runs like its brand new. The owners call it their “bug-out vehicle” because they know that no matter what, it’ll always start, it’ll always run, and it’ll always get them where they need to be.

If you’ve got concerns about your off-road, your bug out, or your recreational vehicle, please come and see us. We want to keep you on the road, and we don’t want you to be scared away thinking that we’re just the regular shop that only fixes the modern cars that are easy to solve. We’ll take care of any of your automotive needs.

So, if you’ve got concerns about your four-wheel drive, come and see us here at Saul’s AUTOTEK and we’ll keep you running and on the road right.
