In the early 1990s Dodge partnered with Cummins to produce one of the most reliable trucks ever built.
The Cummins 5.9 L straight six turbo diesel was powerful and reliable. The transmission Dodge put behind it had (2) Power Take Off options so it could be used in a variety of applications.
Today we had a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 come into our doors. The owner stated it had been in the family since new. It’s 20 years old, has over 250,000 Mi on it. After thoroughly inspecting the vehicle top to bottom we only found worn out steering components. Components designed to wear out and typically do with regular use, let alone 250,000 Mi. No other issues were found. So after a basic steering replacement and a vehicle alignment, the truck is back on the road for years to come. All the components on the engine, transmission and the rest of the drivetrain are in great condition. This truck will easily go another 250,000 Mi.
When you hear someone say “they don’t make ‘em like they used to,” this is exactly what they mean. Thank you, Dodge, for producing this long-lasting truck!
